Article Types
Word limits are provided for guidance only. The Editors will consider submissions that exceed the recommended limit, subject to feedback received during peer review.
Review
(~10,000 words, <10 figures/tables): To synthesize and critically evaluate recent advancements in a specific research field, highlighting key breakthroughs, unresolved challenges, and emerging trends. Reviews should provide a comprehensive analysis of literature spanning the past 5–10 years, integrating interdisciplinary perspectives where applicable.
Original research
(~6,000 words, <10 figures/tables): To present original research findings that represent a significant advance in understanding or technology. Articles must demonstrate rigorous methodology, robust data analysis, and clear implications for the field. Materials and methods should be included in the main text. Supplemental materials and methods can be included in the supplemental information, which should also include information needed to support the paper's conclusions.
Rapid report
(~4,000 words, ~6 figures/tables): To present important new research results of broad significance. Reports should include an abstract, an introductory paragraph, up to six figures or tables, and about 80 references. Materials and methods can be included in the main text or in the Supplemental Information, which should also include information needed to support the paper's conclusions.
Perspective
To present highlight recent exciting research, but they do not primarily discuss the author's own work. They may provide context for the findings within a field or explain potential interdisciplinary importance. As these are meant to express a personal viewpoint, with rare exceptions, perspectives should have no more than two authors.
Commentary
(~1000 words, ~1 figure/table, <10 references): To engage with timely scientific debates, policy issues, or recent high-impact publications. Comments may critique, extend, or contextualize findings, fostering scholarly dialogue. As these are meant to express a personal viewpoint, with rare exceptions, Commentary should have no more than two authors. To engage with timely scientific debates, policy issues, or recent high-impact publications in leading journals within the field. Commentary may be peer reviewed at the editors discretion.
Correspondence
(~300 words, no figures/tables, <5 references): To provide concise, focused commentary on articles published in the journal within the past 6 months or on emerging scientific topics. Correspondence should have no more than two authors.

The articles that are published should have the following components in the order stated.

2. Cover letter
Should include the following:
● The title of the manuscript and whether it is an original submission or a re-submission;
● A highlight that contains 3 to 5 short sentences to state the core findings of the research described in the paper;
● All authors agree with the submission;
● The work has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere, including in another form or language;
● Please declare all figures, tables and data that are reproduced from other publications; the authors have to obtain authorization from the copyright holders (usually the publisher) for their use, and should include this authorization form with their submission;
● Please state if the word counts conform to the required word limits;
● Statement of Competing Interests.
