Guide for Authors

Aims and scope

Resources, Environment and Sustainability is a peer-reviewed transdisciplinary journal aiming at publishing high-quality original research from a broad range of natural, social and engineering fields. The publications emphasize sustainable resource utilization, associated environmental stresses, and potential solutions to achieve resource and environmental sustainability.

Previous explorations of pathways to maximize resource utilization efficiency and minimize environmental impacts have been greatly constrained within isolated disciplines, which calls for novel integration across natural, social and technological systems. Understanding the mechanism and inspiring society to sustain future generations with finite natural resources and limited environmental capacity are the overarching goals of this journal.

Scope

Resources, Environment and Sustainability will cover topics including, but not limited to:

Sustainable agriculture and food security

Design for environment

Sustainable production and cleaner production

Circular economy and material cycling

Life cycle assessment

Sustainable development and sustainability

Sustainable consumption

In addition to publishing original research and analyses, Resources, Environment and Sustainability will publish Comment, Reviews, Perspectives, News & Views, Features and Correspondence from across the full range of disciplines concerned with sustainable resource supply and environmental sustainability.

Our major mission is to bridge the gap between academia across disciplines and policy making by facilitating a combinatorial and cross-disciplinary platform that works towards strategic approaches to conserve natural resources and the environment.

Types of article

Unsolicited Article Types

Research articles describe the results of innovative and important original research. The length of these articles is preferably 6 pages, approximately 4,000 words, 50 references and 4 medium-size graphical elements, like figures and tables.

Reviews focus on one topical aspect of a field, but do not just provide a comprehensive literature survey. Reviews could be controversial, but in this case, opposing viewpoints should be briefly indicated opposing viewpoints. Language should be accessible, and if there are any novel concepts or specialist terminology, they should be defined or explained. As a guideline, 5000 words, 4 moderate display items (figures/tables/boxes) and a modest citation list (no more than 150 references) will occupy 9 pages.

Letters to the Editor provide brief comments that allow readers to constructively address a difference of opinion with authors of a RES article. Letters are limited to 500 words and 10 references. Letters may not include requests to cite the Letter writer's work, accusations of misconduct, or personal comments to an author. Letters must be submitted within 6 months of the first online publication date of the subject article.

By Invitation Only

Perspectives are generally authoritative and often provocative pieces calling for action on topical issues pertaining to scientific research and its political, ethical and social ramifications. They attempt to bring an original perspective before the wide readership by scholarly reasoning and examples. As a guideline, approximately 150 words for abstract, 2000 words for main body, 50 references and no more than 4 figures and/or tables. Submission checklist

You can use this list to carry out a final check of your submission before you send it to the journal for review. Please check the relevant section in this Guide for Authors for more details.
