Author Guidelines

1. SUBMISSION

Thank you for your interest in Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research. Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research now offers Free Format submission for a simplified and streamlined submission process allowing researchers to submit their manuscript in their preferred formatting style at original submission. See details in Section 4. PREPARATION OF THE MANUSCRIPT.

Note that submission implies: (i) that the manuscript is an original contribution and has not been published or submitted for publication elsewhere in any language, except as a brief abstract in the proceedings of a scientific meeting or symposium; and (ii) that the author(s) have personally undertaken the described research and that multi-author papers are submitted with the agreement of all authors.

Abstracts and proceedings of conferences and symposia

This will not be considered as prior publication. However, when submitting the paper to the journal, you should clearly mention in your cover letter that the article is based on a conference presentation. You should also mention that the abstract presented at the conference will be published and provide a link to the abstract if it is published by the time you submit the article. Additionally:

The title of the paper should be different from the title of the abstract that will be published.

The published abstract should be cited in the article. (If it is not yet published, you should still cite it mentioning the journal name and marking it as accepted for publication.)

The article submitted to the journal should have at least 30 percent new content compared to the conference presentation.

Posters

We do not regard posters as prior publications.

Patents

The Journal will consider for publication publicly available patents.

Reports

The Journal will consider for publication a paper or presentation that has been posted on a website of a government or funding organization which is available to the general public. It is the responsibility of authors to notify the Senior Editor at the time of submission that material that has been used in the report (tables and figures such as graphs, photographs, illustrations, diagrams) has been or will be published or submitted on a website of a government or funding organization.

Theses/dissertations

We do not regard dissertations/theses as prior publications.

Websites

The Journal will consider for publication a paper or presentation that has been posted on a website of a government or funding organization which is available to the general public. Authors must notify the Journal at the time of submission.

Preprint Servers

The Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research will consider for review articles previously available as preprints. Authors may also post the submitted version of a manuscript to a preprint server at any time. Authors are requested to update any pre-publication versions with a link to the final published article.

Please also note that publication charges apply if the corresponding author is not a member of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology (details below).

Once you have prepared your submission in accordance with the Guidelines, manuscripts should be submitted online at http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/ajgwr

An optional cover letter may be included in the ‘Cover Letter Field’ of the ScholarOne system. The text can be entered directly into the field or uploaded as a file.

Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research follows a single-blind peer review process. Authors are asked to suggest potential reviewers of their manuscript. If there are individuals they would prefer not to review their manuscripts, they may also indicate. The former must not be from the author’s institution or a collaborator, past or present. Editors will consider these suggestions but are not bound by them.

Two Word-files need to be included upon submission: A title page file and a main text file that includes all parts of the text in the sequence indicated in the section 'Parts of the manuscript', including tables and figure legends but excluding figures which should be supplied separately.

The main text file should be prepared using Microsoft Word, doubled-spaced. The top, bottom and side margins should be 30 mm.

Each figure should be supplied as a separate file, with the figure number incorporated in the file name. For submission, low-resolution figures saved as .jpg or .bmp files should be uploaded, for ease of transmission during the review process. Upon acceptance of the article, high-resolution figures (at least 300 d.p.i.) saved as .eps or .tif files will be required.

2. AIMS AND SCOPE

The Australian Journal of Grape and Wine Research provides a forum for the exchange of information about new and significant research in viticulture, oenology and related fields, and aims to promote these disciplines throughout the world. The journal publishes results from original research in all areas of viticulture and oenology. This includes issues relating to wine, table and drying grape production; grapevine and rootstock biology, genetics, diseases and improvement; viticultural practices; juice and wine production technologies; vine and wine microbiology; effects of processing, packaging and inputs on wine composition (quality); wine chemistry; sensory science and consumer preferences; and environmental impacts of grape and wine production. Research related to other fermented or distilled beverages may also be considered. In addition to full-length research papers and review articles, short research articles presenting new and highly topical information derived from a complete study (i.e. not preliminary data) may also be published. Special features and supplementary issues comprising the proceedings of workshops and conferences will appear periodically.
