Author Guidelines
Manuscript Submission
International Journal of Cosmetic Science employs a plagiarism detection system. By submitting your manuscript to the Journal you accept that your manuscript may be screened for plagiarism.

Editorial policy
Manuscripts submitted to the journal will be evaluated by at least two reviewers, one of whom will be an Editorial Board member. The identity of reviewers is confidential. The Editors aim to return an initial decision on a manuscript within 4-6 weeks of submission. No charges are made for submissions nor fees paid to reviewers.
With regard to the European legislation on cosmetics, papers implying the use of animal testing will not be considered for publication.
Trade names should only be used to identify raw material sources, but chemical names or abbreviations should be used in the text. All ingredients/substances tested and discussed should be characterised in sufficient analytical detail as to allow identification and/or reproducibility by other researchers. Empty undefined terms or popular “buzz” words (such as “natural”, “green”, “cosmeceutical” etc.) should be avoided. An acknowledgement of funding is included to address any potential conflicts of interest. In all clinical studies informed consent must be obtained.
Manuscript Preparation
Manuscripts will be accepted in English only, and should be double-spaced with 30 mm margins. Non-native English speakers are advised to seek help for reviewing the text by qualified English speaking persons. Article preparation support is available. Title page
This should contain the title of the paper, the author's names, institutions and addresses (including email address of all authors, a telephone and a facsimile number). Titles should be descriptive of the main result of the work, but kept reasonably short. If the paper was presented at a scientific meeting, the date and place of the meeting must be given. Correspondence will be addressed to the first named author.
Abstract
A 350 (maximum) word abstract should be provided in English. The Editors will generate a French translation for the Publisher. The abstract should include the new discoveries, results and conclusions which are presented in the paper.
Title
The title should be a short informative title that contains the major key words. The title should not contain abbreviations (see our Search Engine Optimization Guide for tips).
The following structure of the abstract (including the titles in BOLD) must be observed (unless specific reasons are provided why this is not possible):
OBJECTIVE: State in a few sentences the purpose and the main objective of the research presented.
METHODS: Describe in two or three sentences the methods and techniques used in the research.
RESULTS: Relate the main observations of the experiments, selecting pertinent data and discussion points in a few concise sentences.
CONCLUSION: State in one or two sentences the new knowledge and/or understanding resulting from the work

Up to six keywords or phrases should be submitted in English for indexing purposes.

The source of funding must be included in your Acknowledgements.
Headings and Paragraphs
Main and subsidiary headings should be distinguished. Neither headings nor paragraphs should be numbered.
Illustrations, figures, tables and photographs
Tables should be numbered using roman numerals, e.g. Table I, Table II, etc. All other illustrations should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g. Figure 1, Figure 2, etc. but should be referred to in the text as Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc. All diagrams, charts, graphs, etc. should be submitted in twice the final size required. All letters and numbers must be large enough to withstand the reduction of 50%. Legends to all figures and tables should be complete enough to be understood without reference to the text.Photographs should be well-contrasted.
We would like to receive your artwork in electronic form. Please save vector graphics (e.g. line artwork) in Encapsulated Postscript Format (EPS), and bitmap files (e.g. half-tones) in Tagged Image File Format (TIFF). Ideally, vector graphics that have been saved in metafile (.WMF) or pict (.PCT) format should be embedded within the body of the text file. Color figures may be published online free of charge; however, the journal charges for publishing figures in colour in print. If the author supplies colour figures at Early View publication, they will be invited to complete a colour charge agreement in RightsLink for Author Services. The author will have the option of paying immediately with a credit or debit card, or they can request an invoice. If the author chooses not to purchase color printing, the figures will be converted to black and white for the print issue of the journal.
References
Only papers closely related to the article should be cited. References should be numbered in the order that they appear in the text. The Vancouver system is used. This means that references are indicated in the text by a number in square brackets, i.e. [1], [2], [3], etc. In the reference section, references are listed in the order that they appear in the text. Journal titles should be abbreviated according to Index Medicus. References in the following style:

Acknowledgements
An acknowledgement section must be inserted at the end of every submitted paper. Please specify contributors to the article other than the authors accredited. Please also include specifications of the source of funding for the study and any potential conflicts of interests if appropriate. Suppliers of materials should be named and the location of the company headquarters (town, state/county, country) included.
Supporting Information
Supporting Information can be a useful way for an author to include important but ancillary information with the online version of an article. Examples of Supporting Information include additional tables, data sets, figures, movie files, audio clips, 3D structures, and other related nonessential multimedia files. Supporting Information should be cited within the article text, and a descriptive legend should be included. It is published as supplied by the author, and a proof is not made available prior ro publication; for these reasons, authors should provide any Supporting Information in the desired final format.

Use the recommended SI units. Compound units should appear as e.g. kg m-3 and not kg/m3 or kg per m3.
Proofs
Authors will receive an e-mail notification with a link and instructions for accessing HTML page proofs online. Page proofs should be carefully proofread for any copyediting or typesetting errors. Online guidelines are provided within the system. No special software is required, all common browsers are supported. Authors should also make sure that any renumbered tables, figures, or references match text citations and that figure legends correspond with text citations and actual figures. Proofs must be returned within 48 hours of receipt of the email. Return of proofs via e-mail is possible in the event that the online system cannot be used or accessed.
