Submission Information

SUBMISSION NOTE

Starting January 2021, Wounds will no longer accept new submissions on the following topics: (1) preclinical research/animal studies, (2) laboratory research, and (3) botanical wound healing.

Please direct all questions to woundseditor@hmpglobal.com.

Manuscript Submissions

All submissions for consideration must be submitted online at Editorial Manager. Authors should follow the online instructions provided below for uploading a manuscript. There is no fee to submit or publish a manuscript in Wounds, nor are there any fees associated with including figures/photographs.

Manuscript Formatting Instructions

Authors are encouraged to consult Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors for further formatting suggestions. Failure to comply with these instructions may result in a delayed review process.

Cover Letter. A cover letter should be submitted that identifies the corresponding author (include the address, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address). Please make clear that the final manuscript has been seen and approved by all authors and that the authors accept full responsibility for the design and conduct of the study, had access to the data, and controlled the decision to publish. As stated in the Uniform Requirements, credit for authorship requires substantial contributions to: (a) conception and design or analysis and interpretation of data; and (b) the drafting of the article or critical revision for important intellectual content. The content of Wounds is protected by copyright. All manuscripts submitted for publication must include the following statement signed by the senior author:

The undersigned author transfers all copyright ownership of the manuscript entitled (title of article) to HMP Communications in the event the work is published. The undersigned author warrants that the article is original, is not under consideration by another journal, and has not been previously published. I sign for and accept responsibility for releasing this material on behalf of any and all co-authors.

In addition, only identifying information should be reported in the Cover Letter (see Review Process section for further information on blinding manuscripts).

Abstract. Each article should include a brief abstract summarizing the methods and significant results of the study. Abstracts should be between 200-300 words.

Text. Manuscripts must be double-spaced and include references, legends, and tables. Citations should be numbered consecutively throughout the entire paper. The following sections must be included in the text of the manuscript: introduction, methods and materials, results, discussion, limitations, and conclusions. Other types of articles (case reports, letters to the editor, and reviews) may have a less structured format. More information regarding what should be included in each section can be found at the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals page published by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.

References. References should be listed at the end of the manuscript. Numbered references must be cited in the same order as found in the text. Please consult the latest edition of the American Medical Association Style Guide for further directions.

Figures/Legends. Digital images should be a minimum of 300 dpi and uploaded with the manuscript as attachments. Additional guidelines include the following:

A descriptive legend must accompany each figure or illustration.

All abbreviations must be identified at the end of the figure legend.

If the figure or graph has been published previously, permission to reprint the figure must be obtained in written from the copyright owner by the author and submitted with the manuscript.

Accepted manuscripts exceeding 5 proof pages will be subject to having Figures/Tables placed online only or the paper will be published entirely online.

Ethics and Equity Positions

Authors must comply with Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidelines and animal welfare regulations of the author’s institution. Authors must include signed consent forms from human subjects who can be identified in photos or in text.

Types of Articles

Wounds primarily publishes original research, reviews, commentaries, and case series (single case reports are published as an Online Exclusive only). We also will consider the following:

Brief Reports or Communications. These are concise reports of work of unusual interest or importance with limited but definitive data. To be considered as a Brief Communication, the manuscript should not exceed four pages (unformatted, double-spaced, 12 pt text), including all written material, figures, tables, and references. References should not exceed 30. Authors should indicate in the cover letter the article is intended as a Brief Report or Communication. Authors should follow the standard guidelines for submitting an article to Wounds.

Letters to the Editor. Letters should be no more than 500 words and 10 references, and be double-spaced. Letters commenting on a Wounds article will be considered if they are received within 3 months of the time the article was published. All letters are reviewed by the editors and are selected based upon interest, timeliness, and pertinence, as determined by the editors. There are no guarantees a letter will be published in print; the editors may choose to publish the letter at www.woundsresearch.com. Letters that are not intended for publication by the authors should state this in the body of the letter. Published letters are edited and may be shortened; tables and figures are included selectively. If a letter is selected to be published, the author will be notified via e-mail.

Rapid Communication. This is a poster-to-publish, timely publication of original research, case series/studies, and educational or informational reports presented as posters at various meetings. Text from the exhibited poster (introduction/objective, materials/methods, results, discussion/limitations, and conclusions) and any accompanying tables and/or figures are submitted in a template provide by the Managing Editor. If accepted, the article is published online and indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed. Wounds solicits articles, but also accepts submissions. If you are interested in submitting a Rapid Communication article, please contact the Managing Editor for more information.

Ahead of Print. Articles published online prior to print publication provide readers with original research on areas of importance to the wound care clinician. The articles are selected by the editors, available online (www.woundsresearch.com) upon e-publication, and indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed approximately 3 months in advance of print release.

Indexing

Wounds is indexed in MEDLINE/PubMed; Cinahl Information Systems; EMBASE; SCOPUS; Current Contents® (under Clinical Medicine); Science Citation Index Expanded (included in the Web of Science); ISI Alerting Services; and Custom Information Services. Wounds is also a member of the Publishers' Circle with Medscape. Full articles can also be viewed on the website, www.woundsresearch.com, which is fully searchable and is registered with all major Internet search engines. Full content is available to Wounds print and online subscribers. Single article access available.

Review Process

All articles are peer reviewed by at least 2, and typically 3, referees, who are experts in the field of wound care and related specialties. The peer-review process is double-blind, and all authors should submit articles without any identifying information within the body of the paper (ie, names, affiliations, IRB numbers and names, clinical trial registry information, etc.). Acceptance is based upon significance and originality. If an article is accepted for publication, the corresponding author will be notified via e-mail through Editorial Manager of a tentative publication date and the revision requirements supplied by the peer reviewers. Editorial revisions will be made to articles accepted for publication as an aid to clarity. If an article is not accepted, the corresponding author will be notified by e-mail through Editorial Manager.

Review Time Notice

Due to an increased volume of submissions, submitted manuscripts may not receive a decision letter for up to 4 months. To avoid significant delays in the peer review or editorial processing of your manuscript, please adhere to the submission guidelines.

To apply to be a peer reviewer for Wounds, fill out the online application form.

Editorial Policies

Opinions expressed by authors are their own and not necessarily those of HMP Communications, the editorial staff, or any member of the Editorial Advisory Board. The publishers of Wounds accept no responsibility for statements made by contributors or claims made by advertisers, nor does the publication of advertisements constitute or imply endorsement. Manuscripts are accepted for publication in Wounds with the understanding that their content, all or in part, have not been published elsewhere and will not be published elsewhere, except in abstract form or by the express consent of the Managing Editor.
