Neuroradiology

Submission guidelines

Instructions for Authors

General Information

Using EditorialManager, Neuroradiology publishes peer-reviewed original research on brain and spine imaging and intervention and its impact on diagnosis, treatment decisions, clinical outcome, and prognosis. Neuroradiology publishes experimental studies as well as experiences with new techniques in the field, discussions on important articles, reviews, and educational papers. The peer-review process is double-blinded.

Please note that the Journal does not offer pre-evaluation.

Therefore, please submit your manuscript directly to EditorialManager using the link below. The Editor will then contact you.

EditorialManager

It is the Corresponding Author’s responsibility to ensure that he/she has the correct authors’ names, affiliations, addresses, and author sequence when the final corrected proofs are submitted. Please note that authors are strongly advised to ensure the correct author group, corresponding author, and order of authors at submission (for more information see “Ethical Responsibilities of Authors” below). Please keep in mind that corrections are no longer possible after Online First publication. All additional corrections require the approval of the Editor-in-Chief(s) and will result in the publication of an erratum hyperlinked to the article.

Preprint Sharing

Posting of preprints is not considered prior publication and will not jeopardize consideration at Springer journals. However, authors should disclose details of preprint posting, including DOI and licensing terms, upon submission of the manuscript or at any other point during consideration at Neuroradiology. Please read full details on our preprint policy here: https://www.springer.com/gb/editorial-policies/preprint-sharing

Types of papers

Original

Original research articles provide new knowledge based on original research. They should be driven by a scientific hypothesis and regard reporting guidelines such as

1. Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy (STARD) for studies dealing with diagnostic accuracy;

2. Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) for observational studies;

3. Consolidated Standards of Reporting Trials (CONSORT) for randomized controlled trials; and

4. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) for meta-analyses of randomized controlled trials.

Review Article

Review articles are invited and should critically assess the literature and data sources pertaining to clinical topics emphasizing neuropathology and imaging and its impact on diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis. There are no restrictions regarding references, figures, or word count for review articles. Please include a message box with a list of Key Points preceding the article Abstract.

Continuing Education

Manuscripts for the section “Continuing Education” may only be submitted following topic approval by the Section Editor. In other words, authors must first discuss the topic with the appropriate Section Editor before submitting a Continuing Education paper. Continuing Education manuscripts may consider lesser known topics as well as more traditional topics where recent advances have been made. Manuscripts should be based on a large series of patients with pathological findings (multicenter if one center does not have sufficient patients with the disease studied) together with an extensive literature search. Beginning with the series of patients’ clinical presentation, diagnostic and therapeutic aspects should be discussed. Embryology and anatomy may be included. There are no specific guidelines as far as length and layout are concerned (except for the inclusion of a message box with a list of Key Points preceding the article Abstract). The illustrations should be of excellent quality. The Journal also welcomes “Pictorial Essays”. Please submit “Pictorial Essays” as “Continuing Education”. Pictorial Essays should illustrate all aspects of a neuropathological condition using advanced imaging modalities.

Editorial

Editorials are invited and should comment on important observations published in the same issue of Neuroradiology, on new developments within the field, or report on Journal news.

Furthermore, the Journal welcomes comments on hot topics and controversies in the field of Neuroradiology. Please submit comments on “Hot Topics” and “Controversies” as “Editorial”.

Guidelines

Guidelines authorized by scientific societies can be published if they cover aspects of diagnostic or interventional neuroradiology.

Short Report

Short Reports describe a relevant observation in Diagnostic, Interventional, or Functional Neuroradiology, or a new diagnostic or interventional technique that may alter current management. They should be a maximum of 1,000 words, begin with an unstructured abstract (150 words), and include a maximum of 10 references and a maximum of two figures. Case Reports are generally not accepted unless they are the first description of a new disease or condition. Please submit your exceptional Case Report as Short Report. The Journal also welcomes “Technical Notes”. Technical Notes describe new diagnostic or interventional techniques that may alter current management. Please submit your Technical Notes as Short Reports.

Letter

Letters to the Editor discuss an article published in recent issues of Neuroradiology, respond to a letter by authors, or discuss a recent observation of interest for neuroradiologists published elsewhere. The maximum length is 750 words, including no more than five references. Tables are prohibited. Letters may be revised by the Editorial Office.

Editorial procedure

Double-blind peer review

This journal follows a double-blind reviewing procedure. Authors are therefore requested to submit:

A blinded manuscript without any author names and affiliations in the text or on the title page. Self-identifying citations and references in the article text should be avoided.

A separate title page, containing title, all author names, affiliations, and the contact information of the corresponding author. Any acknowledgements, disclosures, or funding information should also be included on this page.

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.

Online Submission

Please follow the hyperlink “Submit manuscript” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.

Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.

Title Page

Please make sure your title page contains the following information.

Title

The title should be concise and informative.

Author information

The name(s) of the author(s)

The affiliation(s) of the author(s), i.e. institution, (department), city, (state), country

If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s)

If address information is provided with the affiliation(s) it will also be published.

For authors that are (temporarily) unaffiliated we will only capture their city and country of residence, not their e-mail address unless specifically requested.

Abstract

Please provide a structured abstract of 150 to 250 words which should be divided into the following sections:
