Scope & Mission
Frontiers in Pediatrics (Impact Factor 2.634) publishes rigorously peer-reviewed research broadly across the field, from basic to clinical research that meets ongoing challenges in pediatric patient care and child health. Field Chief Editor Arjan Te Pas at Leiden University is supported by an outstanding Editorial Board of international experts. This multidisciplinary open-access journal is at the forefront of disseminating and communicating scientific knowledge and impactful discoveries to researchers, academics, clinicians and the public worldwide.
Frontiers in Pediatrics also features Research Topics, Frontiers special theme-focused issues managed by Guest Associate Editors, addressing important areas in pediatrics. In this fashion, Frontiers serves as an outlet to publish the broadest aspects of pediatrics in both basic and clinical research, including high-quality reviews, case reports, editorials and commentaries related to all aspects of pediatrics. The Specialty Sections in Frontiers in Pediatrics are listed below.
Frontiers’ unique collaborative peer review process encourages authors, editors and reviewer board members to join forces in improving the quality of papers. Authors can directly interact with reviewers in the interactive review forum, giving both authors and reviewers the chance to exchange their points of view in a productive dialogue. Reviewers and editors are acknowledged on the published paper, giving authors an added level of endorsement for their work. Frontiers also employ a sophisticated social networking platform, Loop, for physician-scientists to network, interact and to promote their work.
Articles published in Frontiers in Pediatrics benefit from Frontiers’ Article Impact metrics. Authors and readers can see the impact of their papers, both in terms of citations and article views. Article views can be visualized according to the geographical location of the readers – a useful feature for gauging the impact of papers in various countries.
Open-access is ideally suited to meet the needs of a growing number of professionals and patients turning to online sources for information and will be freely accessible to the general public.
Frontiers in Pediatrics seeks to meet ongoing challenges in pediatric patient care by disseminating pediatric research and knowledge on all aspects of pediatrics by using a review process that facilitates the publication of quality work, fosters collaboration and networking and promotes and disseminates information to the largest possible audience.

When submitting a manuscript to Frontiers in Pediatrics, authors must submit the material directly to one of the specialty sections. Manuscripts are peer-reviewed by the Associate and Review Editors of the respective specialty section.
