About the Journal

Cognitive Neuroscience is an international, peer-reviewed journal publishing high-quality, original research. Please see the journal's Aims & Scope for information about its focus and peer-review policy.

Please note that this journal only publishes manuscripts in English.

Cognitive Neuroscience accepts the following types of article:

Empirical Reports

Brief Reports

Discussion papers

Commentaries

For Commentators: Commentators to Discussion Papers are both via invitation from the Editor and drawn from a general pool (to which anyone may join). If you would be interested in receiving notification of accepted Discussion Papers and added to our list of people who would like to comment on these accepted articles please create a user account in our ScholarOne Manuscripts website and answer ‘AGREE’ in the appropriate space on the account creation form. If you have already received an invitation to write a Commentary then you may submit it through the ScholarOne site selecting Commentary as the manuscript type. Please be sure to mention which paper you are commenting on. To join our list of commentators or to submit a commentary please log on to our ScholarOne Manuscripts online submission site.

For Reviewers: To submit your review please log on to our ScholarOne Manuscripts online submission site.

For Empirical Papers, we pride ourselves on having streamlined reviewing. As such, we do not require a lengthy review from you. In most cases, one or two paragraphs will suffice. Your review should consider the main strengths and weaknesses of the article and provide constructive comments for the authors. Submissions requiring major revision will be rejected.

For Discussion Papers, please comment on the suitability of the article for published peer commentary in addition to providing your evaluation of the manuscript.

Open Access

You have the option to publish open access in this journal via our Open Select publishing program. Publishing open access means that your article will be free to access online immediately on publication, increasing the visibility, readership and impact of your research. Articles published Open Select with Taylor & Francis typically receive 95% more citations* and over 7 times as many downloads** compared to those that are not published Open Select.

Preparing Your Paper

All authors submitting to medicine, biomedicine, health sciences, allied and public health journals should conform to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, prepared by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

Article Types

Empirical Reports

Should be written with the following elements in the following order: Title page, Abstract (maximum of 250 words), Acknowledgements, Introduction, Methods, Results, General Discussion, and References.

Should be no more than 6,000 words, inclusive of:

Abstract

References

Should contain an unstructured abstract of 250 words.

Should contain between 3 and 7 keywords. Read making your article more discoverable, including information on choosing a title and search engine optimization.

Empirical Reports are intended for high quality empirical work in any area of Cognitive Neuroscience. Tables and figures should be kept to a minimum, and should not exceed five in total.
