Instructions to Authors
1 General Information
The Journal CLEAN – Soil, Air, Water is an international and interdisciplinary journal covering all aspects of Sustainability and Environmental Safety. The journal focuses on organ/human—environment interactions giving interdisciplinary insights on a broad range of topics including air pollution, waste management, the water cycle, and environmental conservation.
The journal publishes an attractive mixture of peer-reviewed scientific reviews, research papers, and short communications. Papers dealing with environmental sustainability issues from such fields as agriculture, biological sciences, energy, food sciences, geography, geology, meteorology, nutrition, soil and water sciences, etc., are welcome. The journal CLEAN – Soil, Air, Water is a journal for sustainability and therefore, real samples have to be included in the study.
Manuscripts failing to reach the required priority rating, failing to comply with the Instructions to Authors or not fitting within the scope of the journal are not considered further and are returned to authors without detailed comments. It should be noted that rebuttals that challenge rejections based on priority and/or scope alone will rarely be successful, since such a decision is necessarily a matter of opinion.
Manuscripts meeting the requirements will be peer-reviewed on the criteria of originality and quality.
Authors may suggest up to five potential referees in the Cover Letter. Please provide their institutional email addresses and a link to the website as well as individuals whom they wish to exclude from the review process. If the decision following review is "reject subject to major revision", a revised version may be submitted, but if major issues with the revised version are still identified by the reviewers, it will then be rejected outright. On acceptance, papers may be subjected to editorial changes. Responsibility for the factual accuracy of a paper rests entirely with the author.
All instances of publishing misconduct, including, but not limited to, plagiarism, data fabrication, image/data manipulation to falsify/enhance results, manipulation of the reviewing process, etc., will result in rejection/retraction of the manuscript.
This journal endorses the COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) guidelines and will pursue cases of suspected research and publication misconduct. In such cases, the journal will follow the processes set out by COPE. For more information about COPE please visit the COPE website at http://publicationethics.org/.The journal also participates in the new CrossRef service CrossCheck (http://www.crossref.org/crosscheck.html), a plagiarism screening tool that allows the comparison of authored work against the content in the internet database of published work to highlight matching or similar text sections. Please be aware that all manuscripts prior to acceptance will be subject to testing using the CrossCheck software.
2 Categories of Scientific Contributions
Three categories of scientific contributions are accepted for publication:
(i) Research articles (Full Papers) consist of experimental and theoretical work with new results describing completed studies and should comprise about 28 000 characters (including spaces). In addition, up to 8 figures or schemes, and 6 tables may be included.
(ii) Communications describing results that are brief, timely and/or of such importance that rapid release is warranted. These manuscripts should be in the range of 18 000 characters (including spaces) and 6 figures.
(iii) Review articles summarize information published on a certain topic and are not limited to own results. Rather than an assemblage of information with a complete literature survey, a comprehensive critical description and selection of the material is indispensable. These contributions should typically not exceed 45 000 characters (including spaces); up to 15 figures may be included.
3 Submission of Manuscripts
3.1 General
Effective with the 2013 volume, this journal will be published in an online-only format. No printed edition will be published. Your article will therefore appear online-only. Furthermore, there will no cost to authors for the publication of color images in the online-only edition.
