1. SUBMISSION AND PEER REVIEW PROCESS
Cladistics, The International Journal of the Willi Hennig Society, publishes novel conceptual and empirical papers on systematics, including applications of cladistic methodology to medicine, linguistics and other fields. The journal has a broad readership and thus prefers manuscripts that (1) encourage debate and dialogue about systematic principles and methods, (2) cover taxa, character systems, or evolutionary questions of broad interest, (3) address questions in systematics through the analysis of multiple data types (e.g., morphology, genomics, fossils, geographic distributions), and/or (4) provide new software tools that significantly facilitate data analysis.
All manuscripts submitted to Cladistics should appeal to a broad readership and present the results of a rigorous analyses that enable the reader to independently assess the strength of support for the authors’ conclusions. For example, authors should present the results of a parsimony analysis and not rely solely on model-based tree reconstruction techniques (e.g., Maximum Likelihood, Bayesian Inference). Submissions lacking a parsimony analysis will be considered incomplete and will not be sent out for review. Cladistics also requests that support measures obtained from alternate analyses be mapped onto the tree nodes of the main tree figure.
