About the Project
TEF (Teaching Excellence Framework) and REF (Research Excellence Framework) ratings guide students’ choice of a university; students choose universities with ‘gold’ TEF ratings and highest REF ratings as they perceive the prestige of these universities to lead to positive labour market outcomes. The relationship between TEF/REF rankings and student outcomes is however not yet understood. The project aims to assess the extent to which attendance at universities with the ‘gold’ TEF rating and 3*- 4* REF rating impact on a graduate labour market outcomes. What is the link between TEF and REF ratings, student demographic characteristics (race/ethnicity, POLAR, gender, etc) and other education factors (such as previous education, commuting students, location of universities, etc) in predicting graduates’ labour market outcomes? For example, at universities with ‘gold’ TEF ratings, do students from different POLAR categories, in different UK regions, have better labour market outcomes?
