About the Project
Pharmaceutical compounds are often formulated as salts as a way of enhancing their solubility. This project seeks to understand the propensity of pharmaceutical salts to hydrate and their hydration behaviour and stability. The project is in collaboration with the Cambridge Crystallographic Data Centre (CCDC).
The student will gain training in database analyses, experimentation as well as computational chemistry. Training will be provided in X-ray diffraction techniques, calorimetry, spectroscopy, molecular simulations, and crystallisation. The student will be part of the Durham University Molecular Crystals and Crystallisation group (DuMoC2) led by Prof Cruz-Cabeza.
The position will be held at the Department of Chemistry, Durham University. Students with an expected 1st or 2.1 in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Pharmaceutical Sciences are encouraged to apply.
