Project
Translating Latin America in the Twenty-First Century
About the Project
This project explores the translation of Latin American literature in the first two decades of the twenty-first century. It will consider the contributions of both independent publishers and larger publishing houses, alongside the role of the translator and critical reception in English-speaking contexts, to provide an assessment of what type of Latin American literature is translated, how and why, and how Latin American literature is therefore represented to present-day English-speaking audiences.
The Project will be based in the Department of Languages and Cultures at Reading University and supervised by specialists in Latin American Cultural Studies. Reading University also has a thriving and internationally-recognised research presence in book, publishing and printing history, including our Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing.

This is eligible to self-funded students or students who have already gained funding from a body external to the UoR.
