POSITION DESCRIPTION:

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. P.J. Cimino within the Neuropathology Unit in the Surgical Neurology Branch at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. Previous work in the lab has defined prognostic biomarkers in gliomas, which are mainly associated with chromosomal copy number alterations (SCNAs) (Cimino et al, Acta Neuropathologica Commun, 2017; Cimino et al, Neuro-Oncology, 2018; Cimino et al, Neuro-Oncology, 2018; Nuechterlein et al, Neuro-Oncology Advances, 2021, Nuechterlein et al, Acta Neuropathologica Commun, 2021). Current efforts in the lab are aimed at defining critical biological mechanisms driven by SCNA-associated genes (Cimino et al, Genes & Development, 2018) Experimental approaches used in the lab include standard molecular biology techniques, in vivo mouse models, and in vitro cell cultures. Currently the laboratory is particularly interested in the role of HOX genes and phosphodiesterases in the maintenance and progression of gliomagenesis.

Qualifications:

Candidates must be strongly motivated, possess a Ph.D. or equivalent at the time of joining the lab and have no more than one year of post-doctoral experience. Successful applicants should have a strong background and demonstrated skills in molecular biology or cell biology, as well as a track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals. Applicants must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Candidates with experience investigating the biology of HOX genes or phosphodiesterases are especially encouraged to apply.
