About the Project

PhD Scholarship at the University of Canterbury New Zealand

The Department of Civil and Natural Resources Engineering at the University of Canterbury is seeking a highly motivated, self-driven, and qualified candidate for a PhD scholarship in the field of building energy simulation and optimisation. The successful candidate will work in a funded project with a collaborative team of researchers from the department, Ministry of Education, and the industry.

Project Description:

The aim of this PhD project is to develop a simulation-based multi-objective optimization framework for energy efficient and sustainable school buildings. The PhD candidate will use building energy simulation tools (e.g., EnergyPlus) to develop simulation models for typical New Zealand school buildings. The candidate will then use optimization techniques such as genetic algorithms and Pareto optimization to find the optimal design solutions. The candidate is also expected to perform lifecycle assessments and lifecycle cost analysis to evaluate the environmental and economic impact of the optimized solutions.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should have:

· A Bachelor or Masters degree in Building Science, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.

· Experience in building energy simulation and optimization.

· Experience in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or similar.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Strong written and verbal communication skills.

· Good teamwork skills.

Scholarship Details:

The scholarship covers tuition fees and a stipend of $28,000 per year for three years. The scholarship is open to both domestic and international students.
