Instructions to Authors
Before submitting to the CJAE, authors must read the journal’s publication policies, types of submissions allowed, and the submission guidelines. It is highly recommended that authors ensure their articles meet the journal’s Aims and Scope.
Publication Policies
General. Authors may publish in Canadian Journal of Agricultural Economics regardless of membership in the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society. Papers may be written in either English or French. Abstracts in both English and French are required for papers. Translations, if not submitted by the author, will be prepared by the journal.
Condition of Submission. Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere without the knowledge of the editors and must not be sent for such consideration without prior notification to the editors. Any possible conflicts with this policy should be reported to the journal on submission.
iThenticate. All submissions are subjected to this plagiarism detection software "iThenticate". Submissions suspected of plagiarism will be rejected and handled according to the recommendations developed by COPE.
ORCID ID. Authors submitting to CJAE are required to associate their ScholarOne account with ORCID, a unique and persistent author identifier. This is a one-time action for each ScholarOne account holder and authors are strongly encouraged to complete this step. More information about ORCID and its benefits visit Author Services.
Author Anonymity. Submissions to the CJAE undergo double blind peer review by two or more reviewers who determine the manuscript's suitability for publication. To maintain author anonymity, ensure that authors' names and affiliations have been removed from the document properties of ALL files uploaded to the ScholarOne system.
Peer Review. Submissions to the CJAE undergo double blind peer review by two or more reviewers who determine the manuscript's suitability for publication. However, authors are encouraged to have manuscripts reviewed by their peers prior to submission. This, along with editorial assistance, will greatly improve the chances of publication and will usually shorten the time between submission and publication.
Data Sharing and Data Accessibility. The journal expects that data supporting the results in the paper will be archived in an appropriate public repository. Whenever possible the scripts and other artefacts used to generate the analyses presented in the paper should also be publicly archived. Exceptions may be granted at the discretion of the editor for sensitive information such as human subject data or the location of endangered species. Authors are expected to provide a data accessibility statement, including a link to the repository they have used, to accompany their paper.
Authors may consult the global registry of research data repositories www.re3data.org to help them identify registered and certified repositories relevant to their subject areas.
Data Citation. Data is required to be cited in the same manner as article, book, and web citations and authors are required to include data citations as part of their reference list. Data citation is appropriate for data held within institutional, subject focused, or more general data repositories. It is not intended to take the place of community standards such as in-line citation of GenBank accession codes. When citing or making claims based on data, authors must refer to the data at the relevant place in the manuscript text and in addition provide a formal citation in the reference list. The following format from the Joint Declaration of Data Citation Principles must be used when citing data: Authors; Year; Dataset title; Data repository or archive; Version (if any); Persistent identifier (e.g. DOI)
Preprints and Preprint Servers. If a copy of the unpublished paper exists where the public can access it, acknowledgement must indicate that the paper has been submitted to the Journal. Acceptance will not be prejudice if the unpublished paper is used in form and content, as submitted for publication in the Journal, in the following ways:
sharing print or electronic copies of the paper with colleagues;
posting an electronic version of the paper on your own personal website, on your employer's website/repository and on free public servers in your subject area.
The CJAE will also consider articles previously available as preprints on non-commercial servers and may post the submitted version of their manuscript to non-commercial servers at any time. Authors are requested to update any pre-publication versions with a link to the final published article.
