Advances in Applied Probability

Information for authors submitting new articles, resubmissions, and final accepted files for publication.

Scope of the journals

Papers published in Advances in Applied Probability (AAP) can be:

review papers,

longer research papers in applied probability, which may include expository material,

expository papers on branches of mathematics of interest to probabilists,

papers outlining areas in the biological, physical, social and technological sciences in which probability models can usefully be developed,

papers in applied probability presented at conferences that do not publish their proceedings,

letters to the Editor on any appropriate topic in applied probability.

Submit a paper

Papers must include:

a short abstract of 4–10 lines giving a non-mathematical description of the subject matter and results

a list of keywords detailing the contents

a list of classifications according to the 2020 Mathematics Subject Classification scheme (http://www.ams.org/msc/)

(Letters to the Editor need not include these.)

To assist authors in writing papers in the Applied Probability style, they may use the LaTeX class file aptpub.cls, the template file template.tex, and APT bibliography style file, apt.bst. We also recommend that authors consult the document guide.pdf, which explains how to use the Applied Probability LaTeX class file. All of these files can be found here. Use of the APT class file is not a condition of submission, but will considerably increase the speed at which papers are processed for press.

Papers should be submitted electronically as a single PDF file via the online submission Website, ScholarOne

Please do not send the .tex file at this time. As part of the submission process, you will be asked to choose the AP Editor whose research interests are closest to the subject of your paper.

You will be sent an acknowledgement immediately via email, confirming receipt of your submission.

The Applied Probability journals use iThenticate to check each manuscript for possible cases of plagiarism as a first step in the submission process. Any suspected cases of plagiarism will be handled as outlined in the COPE guidelines.

Supplementary material

The Applied Probability journals support the submission and publication of supplementary material that is considered beneficial, but not essential for inclusion in the main article. Any such material must be submitted at the same time as the main article, as it will be peer reviewed with the article, and must ultimately be deemed necessary by the review board.

Supplementary material is exclusively published online alongside the main article on Cambridge Core. It will not be copyedited or typeset, but will be published as approved by the Editor in Chief. A link to the online supplementary material will be added to the footnote on the first page of the article during production.

Submit a revised version

When uploading a revision of a previously submitted article, please do not use the new submission link from the ‘Submit a paper’ section. Submit your revision via the status link contained in the email you received from us regarding your earlier version.

Accepted Article Files

Prepared files should be submitted electronically via our online submission portal, ScholarOne, similarly as to original submissions and revisions. The difference between accepted file uploads and original/revisions is we require all associated LaTeX files for accepted articles. You will be sent an acknowledgement immediately via email, confirming receipt of your submission.

If you have not done in a prior stage, you must format your files into the APT template using the aptpub.cls style file as described in your acceptance email from the Executive Editor.
