Author Guidelines
Adicciones publishes original articles on treatment, prevention, policy, basic studies and descriptive studies in the field of addictions, including those to illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco and any other addiction, and originating from various disciplines (medicine, psychology, basic research, social research, etc.). All articles are selected after undergoing an anonymous review process by experts on each topic.
Adicciones publishes four issues per year in March, June, September and December. There may also be supplementary issues. The journal has the following sections: Editorial, original articles, brief reports, review articles and letters to the Editor.
Adicciones is published by Socidrogalcohol (Sociedad Científica Española de Estudios sobre el Alcohol, el Alcoholismo y otras Toxicomanías; Spanish Society for Studies on Alcohol, Alcoholism and other Drug Addictions). Adicciones subscribes to the ethical guidelines for publication of addiction journals, the Farmington Consensus, an agreement by which the review process is regulated, and to which authors submitting manuscripts to the journal Adicciones must strictly adhere (see Appendix 1). This agreement was drawn up by the International Society of Addiction Journal Editors (ISAJE), of which Adicciones is a member.
Manuscripts submitted should follow exclusively the Publication Rules of the American Psychological Association (6th edition, 2010; http://www.apastyle.org). The exceptions to this rule are minimal, and pertain to certain differences between Spanish and English usage. For example, in English the ampersand (&) is used before the last author, whilst in Spanish the word ‘y’ (and) is used; another example would be in the titles of articles, where the first letter of many words is capitalized, whereas in Spanish this is the case only for the first word. All these questions do not apply to the English versions.
Articles are open access (from www.adicciones.es or others webs like Medline) as soon they are published. The publication of new articles is subject to the payment of 50 € per printed page (VAT included) with a 30% discount if first author is a member of Socidrogalcohol. Authors belonging to developing countries (according to http://data.worldbank.org) will pay half the listed price. Exceptionally, when dealing with high quality articles, publication fees might be negotiated if facing serious economic problems

1. SUBMISSION OF MANUSCRIPTS TO THE JOURNAL
Electronic submission. The quickest and preferred form of submitting articles for editorial review is via www.adicciones.es. There you will find all the relevant instructions on submission and how to attach the original. The entire review and editorial process will be carried out through the web. This is the only route for the submission of articles for which provision is made (for any doubts, please contact us at socidrogalcohol@socidrogalcohol.org). It would be very useful, with a view to facilitating the review process, if on submitting the article authors could suggest (via the same platform) at least two reviewers for their article (name, institution and e-mail). These reviewers should be experts in the issue dealt with in the manuscript and have no connection with the research to which it refers. Nor should they currently belong to the Drafting Committee or Editorial Board. The journal reserves the right of decision whether or not to use the reviewers proposed, and the Editor will normally also suggest other reviewers. Authors should bear in mind that the review process is anonymous. In cases in which submission via the web is impossible for some reason, or the author has some problem sending it, please contact us at socidrogalcohol@socidrogalcohol.es, by telephone at (+34) 93 210 38 54 or by post at Adicciones Editor. Avda. de Vallcarca, 180, 08023 Barcelona, Spain.
Authorship. It is very important to consider as authors only those who have made substantial contributions: 1) to the conception and design, data collection, or analysis and interpretation of data; 2) to the writing of the article or its critical review; and who have given their approval to the version submitted for publication. The authors should ensure that significant portions of the material have not been published previously. In case of doubt about the fulfilment of this requirement, copies should be provided of the material in question previously published or submitted elsewhere before the article can be considered for review. Any further doubts about these aspects can be clarified by consulting the Farmington Consensus, to which Adicciones subscribes (Appendix 1), the “Sponsorship, authorship, and accountability” regulations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (www.icmje.org/sponsor.htm) or the publication rules of the American Psychological Association, 6th edition (2010) (www.apastyle.org). The Editor of Adicciones reserves the right to request the authors of the article to specify the contribution to it of each named author.
Languages. The journal accepts articles in Spanish and in English. All articles published shall have an abstract, title and key words in Spanish and English. In the past, it was the policy at the journal to include a Spanish version of the articles submitted in English, but for practical reasons the articles are now generally published in the language in which they are submitted (they may be in both languages if the authors submit them in both). The quality in both English and Spanish must be high, since the journal does not have its own system of language or style correction. Failure to meet the required language standard may result in the article being rejected. At the journal’s discretion, some articles may be translated for publication.
Conflicts of interest. The journal’s policy is that all articles and editorials expressly state whether or not there are conflicts of interest in the corresponding section. All conflicts of interest are important, but particular care should be taken in cases of having received funding for the study from the pharmaceuticals, drinks or tobacco industries, or comparable sources. In this regard Adicciones follows the recommendations of the ISAJE (International Society of Addiction Journals Editors). The existence of a conflict of interests does not mean the article cannot be published. In cases of doubt over this issue, please contact the Editor.
