ADVANCES IN COMPLEX SYSTEMS
Submission Guidelines
ACS — Advances in Complex Systems is a multidisciplinary, but not an all-purpose journal. It is committed to the highest scientific standards, and authors are requested to follow particular guidelines regarding content, style and format for their submissions:
Classification of Manuscripts
Complex Systems: Authors should share a common understanding of "complex systems" as systems comprised of multiple interacting components, or agents (for details, please see the Aims and Scope).
Interdisciplinarity: ACS publishes papers from a wide range of disciplines involved with complex systems (for a detailed list of topics, please see the Aims and Scope), provided that they are accessible to a wide scientific audience. Papers which result from collaborations across traditional academic disciplines are particularly welcome.
Quantitative Approaches: ACS predominantly features quantitative and analytical approaches to, as well as computer simulations of, complex systems. The main body of a paper should thus focus on technical content while maintaining its multi-disciplinary accessibility.
Comprehensibility of Manuscripts
Introduction/Conclusion: Papers should be accessible to a readership from a wide range of scientific disciplines. Therefore, it is important that manuscripts contain a sufficiently long introduction providing the necessary background information and that results be put in broader perspective in the conclusion.
Complex Systems Perspective: Authors should be specific about the concepts, tools and methods used from complex system research. They should also specify the potential impact of their research for the complex systems scientific community beyond the disciplinary horizon. This will further the development of common approaches to complex systems.
Bibliography: For a multidisciplinary journal, it is important that authors cite the literature fully. A bibstyle-file is provided by the publisher.
Source Code: Authors of papers dealing with simulation-based research are encouraged to make their code accessible through the CoMSES Net CML or other public code repositories.
Format of Manuscripts
Regular Papers: ACS predominantly publishes full research articles. Regular papers report about original results in detail, allowing the reader to comprehend the research reported. They must be written in appropriate English. Non-native speakers are strongly encouraged to have their papers corrected before submission.
Reviews and Tutorials: ACS also welcomes reviews and tutorials on topics of general interest to the complex systems scientific community. Please contact the Editor-in-Chief or the Section Editors before embarking on a review or tutorial.
Layout: ACS provides a LaTeX style file for manuscripts. The use of this LaTeX template file is strongly encouraged. The use of word processors is discouraged, as it may delay production.
Keywords: Authors must provide 5 keywords for indexing purposes. Further classification for specific fields (e.g. PACS, JEL) is encouraged.
Submission of Manuscripts
Electronic Submissions: All submissions to ACS are handled electronically. Manuscripts must be submitted online via Editorial Manager (EM), a fully web-based submission, peer-review, and tracking system. Upon submission authors should specify to which section the paper belongs. Authors should also suggest at least five possible referees for their contributions.
New Authors: If you are submitting via this new system for the first time, you will first be required to register. From the account you create, you will be able to monitor your submission and make subsequent submissions.
Detailed instructions for preparation of manuscripts are available in: Latex2e (readme / Download)
Advances in Complex Systems provides its contributing authors FREE PDFs of their respective published articles, rather than free paper offprints. (Authors who would like paper offprints will still be able to order them at reasonable rates.) Visit our Author Rights page to find out about the permissions given to authors to use their PDFs as well as their submitted or accepted preprint articles.
