Author Guidelines
Types of Papers
Scope. ACM Transactions on Autonomous and Adaptive Computing (TAAS) aims to disseminate high quality scientific and technological research results in the area of autonomous adaptive systems, as defined in About TAAS and the Charter.
Originality. Contributions appearing in ACM journals are normally original papers that have not been published elsewhere. Publication of a paper that has been widely disseminated is permitted only if the Editor judges that the revision contains significant amplification or clarification of the original material or there is some significant additional benefit to be gained. Any prior appearance should be noted on the title page and it is the obligation of the author to inform the Editor-in-Chief if there are any circumstances concerning the contribution that bear on this policy. Submission of a manuscript that is under review by TAAS to another journal or conference without approval of the Editor-in-Chief is considered to be unethical and, when discovered, will result in rejection by TAAS.
Unethical Papers. TAAS reserves the right to impose the revision of, or if necessary to refuse, a paper - despite its scientific and technical quality - whenever its content is explicitly unethical or if it supports racism, sexual or religious discrimination, illegal activities or terrorism; similarly, an article may be refused if the editors deem that it might harm the political or religious sensitivity of interested readers in any manner.
Instructions for Submission
TAAS authors should prepare manuscripts according to the ACM accepted manuscript preparation guidelines. Papers must be submitted as a PDF using the ACM template format. Please ensure that papers do not contain embedded fonts (such as embedded Asian fonts). These papers can be difficult to read and view with many PDF viewers not equipped to display certain character sets.
Submitted papers must include the following information:
Authors names and affiliation
Primary author contact information
Abstract
Categories and Subject Descriptors
References
In addition, submitted papers must be complemented with a cover letter, that should be no longer than one page and should:
State the motivation for submitting to TAAS and relevance for the TAAS readership (see About TAAS);
Concisely summarize the significance of the contribution for the TAAS audience;
Briefly relate the study to previously published work;
Suggest appropriate TAAS Associate Editor(s)to handle the manuscript (or, in the case of Special Issues, simply indicate the name of the special issue);
Include, in the case of Special Issues, allinformation requested by the guest editors in the cover letter.
The cover letter may be longer than one page if the submitted paper is an extension or is based on a previously published paper, in which case the cover letter should comprehensively position the paper contributions compared to the previously published one.
Papers must be submitted through the electronic submission web site: http://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/taas. Authors must create account before submitting their paper.
Reproducibility
TAAS aims to improve the reproducibility of research in its field. Therefore, please include sufficient information to document the core steps of your scientific process as transparent as possible, e.g., data, model, experiment settings, including methods and configurations, and/or software. Associate editors and reviewers will be asked to assess the paper also with respect to this information. Thus, although not required, submitted manuscripts which provide clear information on how to generate reproducible results, whenever possible, will be considered favorably in the decision process by reviewers and the editors. Please feel free to use the supplemental material for doing so.
TAAS intends to put in place a reproducing computational results (RCR) activity. Detail will be posted when available.
Review Process
TAAS aims to return review results within 4 months.
Instructions for Publication of Accepted Papers
Authors of accepted papers will submit a publication packet to ACM Publications. The packet will include:
Name and address of contact author, including email address and phone number.
PDF file of final version.
Formatted source files (see http://www.acm.org/pubs/submissions/submission.htm).
2012 Computing Classification System terms.
The files should be zipped and submitted through the submission site: https://mc.manuscriptcentral.com/taas.
Templates
Manuscripts accepted for publication in any ACM publication must be formatted using the ACM authoring template. Submissions must also use the ACM authoring templates. ACM style files will closely approximate the final output, enabling authors to judge the page-length of their published articles.
ACM authoring templates and detailed instructions on formatting can be found at http://www.acm.org/publications/authors/submissions. For both Word and Latex technical support, contact acmtexsupport@aptaracorp.com.
ACM Computing Classification System (CCS)
If your paper has been accepted, please read the HOW TO CLASSIFY WORKS USING ACM'S COMPUTING CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM for instructions on how to classify your document using the CCS and insert the index terms into your LaTeX or Microsoft Word source file. Providing the proper indexing and retrieval information from the CCS provides the reader with quick content reference, facilitating the search for related literature, as well as searches for your work in ACM's Digital Library and on other online resources.
