Aging clinical and experimental research
Submission guidelines
Instructions for Authors
Types of Papers
Review Articles
Overview papers on selected topics. Review articles are in general invited by the editors but suggestions by interested individuals may also be considered. Prospective authors should submit a formal and detailed proposal to the Editor, indicating the title and a brief outline of the content.
Manuscripts should provide an up-to-date and authoritative review and synthesis of existing literature.
Meta-analyses will also be considered as Reviews.
Review Articles should not exceed 7.500 words including an abstract of no more than 250 words, references, tables and figures.
Original articles
Accounts of research or clinical practice that should be based on original rather than confirmatory data. Typically, Original Research Papers will present new data derived from a sizable series of subjects or patients. Original Research Papers should not exceed 5.000 words including an abstract of no more than 250 words, references, tables and figures.
Replicability of the results is the key condition for any good research, and it largely depends on the power of statistical analyses (e.g., Brysbaert, 2019; Brysbaert & Stevens, 2018; Button et al., 2013; Szucs & Ioannidis, 2017). Underpowered studies will not be published. Therefore, the size of the sample should always be calculated and reported, and studies should achieve a power of at least 0.80 for the most relevant statistical analyses. In exceptional cases, if the sample size calculation is not available, post-hoc power sensitivity analysis must be reported. Therefore, the Authors should estimate what the effect size would need to be, given their sample size. So, for example, given sample size of X, the study was sufficiently powered (e.g., >80%) to detect an effect size that was YY or larger. Needless to say, the Authors should report effect sizes.
Short communications
Short communication may represent either a final report on definitive studies which do not require a larger space for complete documentation, or a preliminary report on new observation of sufficient significance to warrant rapid publication. Short communication should not exceed 2.000 words including an abstract of no more than 150 words, no more than 15 references, tables and figures.
Letters to the Editor
Brief letters (maximum of 1.000 words including max 5 references; no tables or figures) may be published if they include the notation “for publication”. Letters providing pertinent comments on published articles will be considered and the authors concerned will be given a right to reply. Letters raising problems of general interest to geriatrists or briefly comment any aspect of aging will also be considered. Publication of correspondence is at the discretion of the Editorial Board, but letters including original data will be sent out for review.
Points of view
Short papers presenting the opinion of an expert on a topic of major or controversial interest. Points of view should not exceed 2.000 words including a max of 5 references with one table or figure and without abstracts.
Manuscript Submission
Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors, if any, as well as by the responsible authorities – tacitly or explicitly – at the institute where the work has been carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation.
Permissions
Authors wishing to include figures, tables, or text passages that have already been published elsewhere are required to obtain permission from the copyright owner(s) for both the print and online format and to include evidence that such permission has been granted when submitting their papers. Any material received without such evidence will be assumed to originate from the authors.
Online Submission
Please follow the hyperlink “Submit manuscript” on the right and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen.
Please ensure you provide all relevant editable source files. Failing to submit these source files might cause unnecessary delays in the review and production process.
