2. AIMS AND SCOPE
Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews is an online-only journal publishing high quality original research and reviews in the fields of diabetes, endocrinology, metabolism and obesity. Original papers describing clinical studies, translational and basic research related to diabetes, obesity, metabolism, or closely related metabolic disorders are welcome, as are articles concerned with treatment and management issues related to patient care.
Submission is considered on the conditions that papers are previously unpublished, and are not offered simultaneously elsewhere; that all authors have read and approved the content, and all authors have also declared all competing interests; and that the work complies with Ethical Policies of the journal, and has been conducted under internationally accepted ethical standards after relevant ethical review. It is highly recommended you read this policy and complete any necessary documentation prior to your submission.
3. MANUSCRIPT CATEGORIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Research articles
Research articles should be structured as follows:
Title page: Author names, affiliations, and a short running title. The word counts for the abstract and the main body of the text (excluding references and legends) should be clearly stated, along with the number of references, tables and figures. Please conform to the guidance on manuscript size below.
Structured abstract: Subheadings - aims, materials and methods, results, and conclusions (maximum 250 words);
Main manuscript: Should be typed double-spaced and structured as follows: introduction; materials and methods (including appropriate subsections, e.g. statistical methods); results; discussion; acknowledgements; references (normally 40); legends to figures; tables; and figures.
Original manuscripts should be 3,500 words (not including references, tables and figures). Manuscripts should include a maximum of 5 Figures and/or tables. Additional tables or figures and/or extra methodological detail can be included in a separate Supplementary Appendix. The production and handling Editors may relocate tables or figures into a Supplementary Appendix prior to the production of page proofs if the manuscript exceeds these specifications at the time of final acceptance.
Review articles: Reviews are typically invited, but authors are welcome to contact the Editorial office with proposals for potential reviews. There is no set word limit for reviews and there is no need for the abstract to be structured.
Commentaries: Commentaries cover a variety of topics of current interest. The Journal welcomes submissions and proposals. Commentaries are generally limited to 1,500 words and 15 references. No abstract is required for a commentary.
4. PREPARING YOUR SUBMISSION
Parts of the Manuscript
The manuscript should be submitted in separate files: main text file; figures.
Main Text File
The text file should be presented in the following order:
i. Title
ii. Abstract
iii. Introduction
iv. Materials and Methods
v. Results
vi. Discussion
vii. Acknowledgements
viii. References
Other subsection headings within the main headings may be used, but should be limited. Figures and supporting information should be supplied as separate files.
Title
The journal encourages authors to include their findings in the title.
Authorship
Please refer to the journal’s Authorship policy in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section for details on author listing eligibility.
Acknowledgments
Contributions from anyone who does not meet the criteria for authorship should be listed, with permission from the contributor, in an Acknowledgments section. Financial and material support should also be mentioned. Thanks to anonymous reviewers are not appropriate.
Conflict of Interest Statement
Authors will be asked to provide a conflict of interest statement during the submission process. For details on what to include in this section, see the ‘Conflict of Interest’ section in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section below. Submitting authors should ensure they liaise with all co-authors to confirm agreement with the final statement.
Authors' Contribution Statement
The individual contributions of each author must be specified. Author's initials should be used (e.g. AG, EB, and FT conceived and designed the experiments) and they should state that all authors have read and approved the final manuscript. This should be listed under the heading ‘Author Contributions’ and should be added within the manuscript following the Acknowledgements section and/or Conflict of interest statement. For details on what to include in this section, see the ‘Authorship’ section in the Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations section below.
Abstract
Please provide an abstract of up to 250 words containing the major keywords summarizing the article.
Keywords
Please provide up to six keywords.
Main Text
• The journal uses British spelling; however, authors may submit using either option, as spelling of accepted papers is converted during the production process.
• Footnotes to the text are not allowed and any such material should be incorporated into the text as parenthetical matter.
• Articles may range from approximately 2,500 to 6,000 words.
References
All references should be numbered consecutively in order of appearance and should be as complete as possible. In text citations should cite references in consecutive order using Arabic superscript numerals.
For more information about this reference style, please see the AMA Manual of Style.

Tables
Tables should be self-contained and complement, not duplicate, information contained in the text. They should be supplied as editable files, not pasted as images. Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the table, legend, and footnotes must be understandable without reference to the text. All abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Footnote symbols: †, ‡, §, ¶, should be used (in that order) and *, **, *** should be reserved for P-values. Statistical measures such as SD or SEM should be identified in the headings.
Figure Legends
Legends should be concise but comprehensive – the figure and its legend must be understandable without reference to the text. Include definitions of any symbols used and define/explain all abbreviations and units of measurement.
Figures
Although authors are encouraged to send the highest-quality figures possible, for peer-review purposes, a wide variety of formats, sizes, and resolutions are accepted. Click here for the basic figure requirements for figures submitted with manuscripts for initial peer review, as well as the more detailed post-acceptance figure requirements.
Figures submitted in color may be reproduced in color online free of charge. Please note, however, that it is preferable that line figures (e.g. graphs and charts) are supplied in black and white so that they are legible if printed by a reader in black and white. If an author would prefer to have figures printed in color in hard copies of the journal, a fee will be charged by the Publisher.
Additional Files
Appendices
Appendices will be published after the references. For submission they should be supplied as separate files but referred to in the text.
Supporting Information
Supporting information is information that is not essential to the article, but provides greater depth and background. It is hosted online and appears without editing or typesetting. It may include tables, figures, videos, datasets, etc.
Click here for Wiley’s FAQs on supporting information.
Note: if data, scripts, or other artefacts used to generate the analyses presented in the paper are available via a publicly available data repository, authors should include a reference to the location of the material within their paper.
General Style Points
The following points provide general advice on formatting and style.
• The cover page should include the full title, short title of up to 40 characters and names and affiliations of all authors. Give the full address, including email, telephone and fax, of the author who is to check the proofs.
• Include the name(s) of any sponsor(s) of the research contained in the paper, along with grant number(s).
• Authors may suggest appropriate reviewers, for consideration by the Editors.
• Please bear in mind the importance of the title and abstract; these will be read many more times than the full paper, and are used by readers to decide if they will read the full paper or not. It is worth taking time to make the title and abstract as informative and accurate as possible. For advice on writing titles and abstracts please visit our Author Services site.
• Abbreviations are not encouraged except for units of measurement and universally recognized abbreviations (e.g. DNA). When an abbreviation appears in the text for the first time, it should be placed in parentheses after the words for which it stands. We strongly discourage the use of non-standard abbreviations, as they are not helpful to readers.
• Compound and drug names. Generic names should be used for all compounds. Trade names may be used in parentheses after the generic name. Sources of unusual materials and chemicals, and the manufacturer and model of equipment used should be indicated.
The Editor reserves the right to alter manuscripts whenever necessary to make them conform to the stylistic and bibliographical conventions of the Journal.
