Overview
The award-winning WIREs (Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews) series combines some of the most powerful features of encyclopedic reference works and review journals in an innovative online format. They are designed to promote a cross-disciplinary research ethos while maintaining the highest scientific and presentational standards, but should be viewed first and foremost as evolving online databases of cutting-edge reviews.
WIREs Computational Molecular Science
An important new forum to promote cross-disciplinary research on computational chemistry, biochemistry and materials science
An authoritative, encyclopedic resource addressing key topics from diverse research perspectives
Free or low cost access in developing countries through Research4Life
Indexed by TRSI (formerly ISI), CAS, and Scopus

Aims and Scope
The computational molecular sciences utilize the techniques of rigorous chemical as well as physical theories and computer-based modeling, relying on specialized hardware and software development, algorithm design, and database management to examine and elucidate all aspects of the molecular sciences. These approaches bridge chemistry, biology, and the materials sciences and have connections to neighboring chemical as well as biological application-driven fields. WIREs Computational Molecular Science will review and highlight research from all these fields..
Readership
Each WIREs title was established in response to the urgent need to publish current, comprehensive reviews of the pioneering research that is being done in an interdisciplinary and complementary set of fields. Reviews are structured into different Article Types, each with its own description and intended audience.
Our goal is to support the research and teaching needs of advanced students, scientists, healthcare providers, governmental and policy analysts, and other professionals in these rapidly developing areas with article types catered to different readers, collections on hot topics, and freely available PowerPoint downloads of each article’s figures.
Additionally, Wiley participates in the Research4Life initiative, which provides people at more than 7,700 institutions in the developing world with free or low cost access to scientific content.

PERSPECTIVE Formerly called an Opinion, a forum for thought-leaders, hand-picked by the editors, to provide a more individual perspective on the field in question or to set out new agendas for research and action. These articles may be deliberately provocative, or else co-authored to capture the essence of a live debate. They should cite literature which authenticates their argument(s), but without the need to be exhaustive or comprehensive.

PRIMER Meant to be understood by a very general audience, such as undergraduates just entering a given field. These articles should provide orientation to the key theories, knowledge, uncertainties, and controversies in the field, without seeking to be partisan.

OVERVIEW Broad and relatively non-technical treatment of important topics at a level suitable for advanced students and for researchers without a strong background in the field. These articles must refer to the key articles/books in the field (not exhaustive but comprehensive) and help readers navigate their way around this literature. Some historical depth to the subject matter should be offered, placing current knowledge in its temporal context. Co-authorship for topics with cross-disciplinary boundaries is encouraged.

ADVANCED REVIEW Aimed at researchers and advanced students with a strong background in the subject. These articles will review key areas of research in a citation-rich format similar to that of leading review journals. They seek to engage readers through new insights and syntheses of familiar themes, with technical content as necessary. A critical edge to such reviews is encouraged.

FOCUS ARTICLE These articles are mini-reviews focusing on a particular concept, example, application, region, method, debate, etc., and which therefore illustrate aspects of larger ideas covered in Overviews and Advanced Reviews. Even if the topic is narrow, authors should avoid referencing only their own work. They should cite sufficient wider relevant literature for readers to see how the subject matter fits into the wider body of knowledge.

SOFTWARE FOCUS Used to describe specific software packages of high utility in a certain field. These articles should review the capabilities of the software and how it has been and can be applied.

UPDATE Part of the encyclopedic aspect of WIREs is the ability for authors to update their articles to include new findings or references. This can include adding a couple of paragraphs or figures to a summary of the original article, changing outdated information, or even overhauling most of the article. An update would need to refer to the original and will be linked to it, but should be able to stand alone, as it will have its own DOI and will show up separately in search results. (A completely overhauled article would likely fall under one of the Article Types above, but could still be linked to the original as an update.)
