SCI论文投稿指南 · Cover Letter
绝大多数SCI杂志都要求作者投稿的时候附上cover letter。对于期刊编辑来说， cover letter的作用就相当于摘要对于读者。但cover letter与摘要的侧重点不同，期刊编辑考虑的是文章能否吸引读者订阅，从而收获商业效益。因此cover letter需要重点突出的是研究的意义和创新性。
此外，cover letter还需具备一些基本要素和格式，不符合要求的cover letter，甚至会直接导致编辑拒稿。那么如何写出一封强有力的cover letter呢？根据以下建议，将让你的论文大大增加编辑送审的几率。

CONTENTS
一般SCI期刊要求的cover letter，都需要包括以下基本内容：

编辑称呼
信件自然是以收件人称呼开始，此时最好使用期刊编辑的姓名：

Dear Dr./Mr./Ms. [Editor's last name]:
如果不能确认编辑的姓名，可以使用：

Dear Managing Editor:

Dear Editor-in-Chief:
...
千万不要 使用"Mrs." 或者"Miss"，不符合正式信件规范；也不要使用“Dear Sirs:“，或者类似的称呼，女性编辑不在少数，这会让人觉得不礼貌。

信件首段
Cover letter 第一段首先需要交代的是论文标题、投稿杂志名称、文章类型，以及简要描述研究内容。通常2~3句话即可：
★ I am writing to submit our manuscript entitled, ["Title"] for consideration as a [Journal Name][Article Type]. [One to two sentence "pitch" that summarizes the study design, where applicable, your research question, your major findings, and the conclusion.]
描述研究结果的句式：
· Our findings confirm that...
· We have determined that...
· We found that...
· We illustrate...
· Our results establish...
· Our work substantiates...

研究介绍
接下来的1~2段相当于论文的简要概括，即介绍研究所用方法、主要发现，以及对研究领域的意义。
注意内容不要过于冗长，每个部分用1~2句话描述即可：
★ Given that [context that prompted your research], we believe that the findings presented in our paper will appeal to the [Reader Profile] who subscribe to [Journal Name]. Our findings will allow your readers to [identify the aspects of the journal's Aim and Scope that align with your paper].
最关键的是要强调该研究的创新之处，对于该领域的重要性，为什么读者会对本研究感兴趣。

相关声明
根据学术规范，投稿应提供一些必要的声明，其中与出版有关的一般放在cover letter中，如：
★ 声明论文未在他处发表过，以及未一稿多投,这里也可放在首段；
"Each of the authors confirms that this manuscript has not been previously published and is not currently under consideration by any other journal."
★ 声明所有作者同意本次投稿，有无利益冲突；
"All co-authors have agreed to the submission, the named authors have no conflict of interest, financial or otherwise."
★ 声明所有作者都参与本次研究和论文撰写等。
"Each named author has substantially contributed to conducting the underlying research and drafting this manuscript."

结束语与落款
出于信件规范和礼貌，信件结尾一般会用一两句话表示期盼回信，然后落款留下作者姓名和联系方式：
★Thank you very much for your consideration and we look forward to comments from reviewers.

除了以上必要的信息，还可以自行选择补充一些额外的信息，有些期刊也可能会作额外要求，因此需要强调的是投稿之前一定要看仔细期刊的投稿指南。

Cover letter中可以列出与本研究相关的文献，可以是作者此前已发表的，也可以是发表在拟投期刊上的其他文章，以增强论文的说服力：
★This manuscript expands on the prior research conducted and published by [Authors] in [Journal Name]" or "This paper [examines a different aspect of]/ [takes a different approach to] the issues explored in the following papers also published by [Journal Name].

推荐审稿人
有些期刊会在投稿系统中要求提供推荐审稿人，也有期刊要求将其附在cover letter里：
★ Should you select our manuscript for peer review, we would like to suggest the following potential reviewers/referees because they would have the requisite background to evaluate our findings and interpretation objectively.
同理也可附上需要避开的审稿人信息，以避免遇到恶性竞争的情况。

给编辑的附加信息
通常是作者与编辑曾对本研究进行过相关讨论，或受到杂志编辑的邀稿,许多期刊或出版社会在投稿系统中提供此项选择：
★ We discussed [topic] with an editor at a conference...
再次强调，一定要根据期刊的投稿指南来写cover letter，指南中提到的信息必须包括在内，如果连基本的要求都不符合，期刊编辑完全有理由直接拒稿！
小/技/巧
TIPS
Cover letter 虽然不如论文稿件的格式要求复杂，但也有一些不容忽略的要点：
★ 篇幅不宜过长，尽量控制在一页以内；
★ 不要使用过多缩写词或行业术语；
★ 不要夸大自己的研究成果，实事求是即可；
★ 不用在信中吹嘘作者此前的学术成就；
★ 使用正式严肃的学术语言，避免幽默，题外话太容易出错；
