01 院系介绍

The Bartlett Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA) develops and researches emerging computer technologies in several disciplines that deal with geography, space, location, visualisation, and the built environment. CASAs focus is to be at the forefront of what is one of the grand challenges of 21st Century science: to build a science of cities from a multidisciplinary base, drawing on cutting-edge methods, and ideas in modelling, complexity, visualisation and computation. Our current mix of architects, planners, geographers, mathematicians, physicists, transport engineers, and computer scientists makes CASA a unique and world-leading unit within the Faculty of the Built Environment at UCL.

02 研究方向

The Research Fellow position is associated with the ERC-funded project - Redefining Variability: EvALuating Land Use and TRansport Impacts on Urban Mobility PatternS (realTRIPS). (https://smartcityanalysis.com/) The general aim of the project is to open a new avenue of research in urban mobility analysis using emerging automatic data by developing an analytical and modelling framework, particularly addressing variability across spatial-temporal scales and of population groups. The proposed framework will leverage key concepts from uncertainty in spatial analysis, time geography, land use transport modelling, and urban planning. Under this theoretical framework, new variability measures will be developed and integrated as a function of space and time into operational urban models. These urban models will generate a more accurate evaluation of land use and transport impacts on peoples mobility patterns in terms of the affected area and effect time. The advertised research position will be working on work package 2 - Variability measure for urban mobility patterns with the expectation to develop spatio-social indicators of mobility, accessibility, segregation and inequality associated with urban scenarios in developed and developing countries.

The postholder will have a PhD awarded in Geography, Urban Informatics, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, or a related discipline with a significant component of data science. Other essential criteria include: deep knowledge of a programming language for reproducible spatial data; analysis and modelling (e.g. Python, R, or other relevant approach); experience of working with human location data sets (e.g., travel card data, social media data, mobile phone data); experience in applying machine learning and data science methods in handling and analysing automatically collected location data; in-depth understanding of theoretical and methodological approaches to the study of accessibility, social segregation and transport-related inequality using quantitative methods; a positive and flexible attitude with a willingness to take on new areas of application and to contribute to the development of the research; good reliability, motivation and organisational skills in the workplace, able to manage a varied workload whilst still being able to meet strict deadlines and displaying evidence of the ability to complete tasks and projects to a high standard with a minimum of supervision.
