Guidelines for Authors of Technical Physics Letters

Technical Physics Letters is devoted to various aspects of general and applied physics. The journal is published two issues a month.

Together with a manuscript, the authors should submit a scanned copy of the copyright transfer agreement completed and signed by all authors.

The editorial board of Technical Physics Letters asks contributors submitting their manuscripts to obey the following rules. Manuscripts not conforming to these rules are not accepted for publication and are returned for revision.

1. The manuscript should include a cover letter briefly explaining the need to rapidly publish the manuscript in Technical Physics Letters. The manuscript must be signed by all the authors. The accompany-ing material should contain the address, phone number, and e-mail address of the corresponding author.

2. The manuscript length should not typically exceed four standard (21 × 30 cm or 8.5 × 11 in) dou-ble-spaced pages (plus the list of references and figure captions, both on separate pages) and (typically) two figures. Figures composed of separate independent parts should be avoided. The printed text should be neatly typed, employing the font size of 12 or 14 pt, on white paper with double spacing and ample margins. All pages should be sequentially numbered.

3. The title page should be have the following items: the title; the list of authors; their affiliations and addresses (including zip code, city, and country); e-mail addresses; and abstract (not exceeding one-third of a standard page).

4. The figure size must not exceed the standard A4 page size and should contain the minimum nec-essary amount of details. The resolution of the computer-generated figures should be at least 600 dpi. The figures should contain only notations using letters and numbers; all the necessary explanations should be given in the text or in the figure captions. Tables should give the units of measure for all quantities.

5. Abbreviations, even conventional ones, should be avoided in the text and are unacceptable in the paper title, except for the formulas of complicated chemical compounds. The first use of an abbreviation in the text should be clearly explained.

6. The references must be numbered consecutively in order of appearance in the text and are given in a separate list at the end of the text. References within the text are indicated by numbers in square brackets. The list of references must indicate the initials and surnames of all authors of the source cited (unless there are more than four; in this case, the third author’s name is followed by et al.) and, for journals, the journal title (in the conventional abbreviated form), year, volume number, issue number, and pages (from first to last); for books, full title, publisher, city, year of publication, and pages. Please check one of the latest journal issues for the format and punctuation in the list of references.

7. The authors may submit a manuscript in LATEX-2ε format. All formulas must be written only using the standard TEX fonts of the Computer Modern (CM) family and the msam and msbm fonts of the American Mathematical Society (AMS).

8. If the manuscript is sent to the authors for revision to take into account the referee’s remarks and suggestions, the revised manuscript has to be returned to the editor within two months. Otherwise, the date of first receipt is not mentioned and only the date of receiving the revised version is indicated.

Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

This journal is committed to upholding the integrity of the scientific record. As a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) the journal will follow the COPE guidelines on how to deal with potential acts of misconduct.

Authors should refrain from misrepresenting research results which could damage the trust in the journal, the professionalism of scientific authorship, and ultimately the entire scientific endeavour. Maintaining integrity of the research and its presentation is helped by following the rules of good scientific practice, which include*:

The manuscript should not be submitted to more than one journal for simultaneous consideration.

The submitted work should be original and should not have been published elsewhere in any form or language (partially or in full), unless the new work concerns an expansion of previous work. (Please provide transparency on the re-use of material to avoid the concerns about text-recycling (‘self-plagiarism’).

A single study should not be split up into several parts to increase the quantity of submissions and submitted to various journals or to one journal over time (i.e. ‘salami-slicing/publishing’).

Concurrent or secondary publication is sometimes justifiable, provided certain conditions are met. Examples include: translations or a manuscript that is intended for a different group of readers.

Results should be presented clearly, honestly, and without fabrication, falsification or inappropriate data manipulation (including image based manipulation). Authors should adhere to discipline-specific rules for acquiring, selecting and processing data.

No data, text, or theories by others are presented as if they were the author’s own (‘plagiarism’). Proper acknowledgements to other works must be given (this includes material that is closely copied (near verbatim), summarized and/or paraphrased), quotation marks (to indicate words taken from another source) are used for verbatim copying of material, and permissions secured for material that is copyrighted.
