GENERAL
ASAIO Journal is a peer-reviewed, monthly journal that features research, development, and the most recent advances in the design of artificial organ devices and findings from initial testing. ASAIO Journal acts as a source of information, for those caring for patients with the need for organ replacement by artificial means and/or those at the forefront of artificial organs research and development. ASAIO Journal features state-of-the-art investigations, laboratory and clinical trials, and discussions and opinions from experts around the world.
ASAIO Journal is the official publication of the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO.org).

ETHICAL/LEGAL CONSIDERATIONS
ASAIO Journal is member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and follows the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE). A submitted manuscript must be an original contribution not previously published (except as an abstract or a preliminary report), must not be under consideration for publication elsewhere, and, if accepted, must not be published elsewhere in similar form, in any language, without the consent of Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW).
Authorship
Each person listed as an author is expected to have participated in the study to a significant extent (see also authorship guidelines outlined by COPE https://publicationethics.org/files/Authorship_DiscussionDocument.pdf). Authors may be asked to provide a list of the authors’ specific contributions if the number of authors is deemed to be excessive relative to the work's article type or scope.
Although the editors and referees make every effort to ensure the validity of published manuscripts, the final responsibility rests with the authors, not with the Journal, its editors, or the publisher.
Human and Animal Protection
All studies involving human subjects must have been conducted according to the World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki in its latest form. US studies must follow the Code of Federal Regulations regarding the protection of human subjects. All studies involving experimental animals must have been approved by an internal review board in accordance with local regulations for animal welfare.
Conflict of Interest
All authors and all sources of funding must be provided with the electronic submission and listed on the manuscript title page. Copyright Transfer Agreements are collected from all authors with the electronic submission via an online form.
MANUSCRIPTS
All manuscript material must be submitted electronically through the Editorial Manager website. Criteria for initial consideration for papers submitted will be novelty, statistical probability of all data, and applicability to the aims of the Journal as a whole. Additional weight will be afforded to those submissions that are concise and well written. All submissions, including invited articles, undergo peer review and acceptance is not guaranteed.
